A Start to My Christmas Cards

My recent 10 day absence was a result of no stamping energy.  I didn't have any good ideas or even the desire to stamp.  So, I thought maybe I'd shift my thinking and get a start on my Christmas cards!  I had a technique I wanted to try but every other aspect of the card was a blank for me.  Then, I saw Mary Jo's sketch and thought, "I can make this work!"

Here's her sketch:

And here's my card:

I wanted to use my new Chalk marker to color my snowman.  It's not an intense white, so after I colored it, I added highlights with my gel pen.  I had exactly 7 felt snowflakes left, so I made 7 cards.  The red banners were scraps from my file.  Most of them aren't full strips!  Since they are hiding behind my snowman (except the strip to the right) I was able to piece them all together!  I love using scraps!

We are bracing for another two snow storms this weekend.  One tonight that will only bring an inch or so.  Tomorrow night maybe up to another 4".  I can't believe this winter!  When will I see the bare ground again?  I'm suppose to start my seeds indoors this weekend!  Sure doesn't feel like it!

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. This is darling, Shelley! Love the colour combo and way to use up your strips - I do the same :) Loving that snowflake!!

We just got 11 inches of snow last w/e - a very rare thing for us on the West Coast, especially the fact that is still hasn't all melted. Usually a dump and then rain the next day so it disappears. Was so beautiful, but driving was a nightmare as so many have no CLUE how to drive in the stuff here. Bonus: We helped friends move while it was dumping snow - that was a first LOL!

Have seen weather forecasts and you guys are getting pummeled this winter :( Hang in there!! Soon enough you will have flowers in your garden :) Have a great w/e!

  2. What a terrific start to your Christmas stash - 7 cards AND you managed to use up a heap of scraps. Woohoo, love what you've done with the sketch.

Sorry to hear you're having such a rotten winter. Down in Australia we had our last official day of summer yesterday so now it's Autumn and winter will be here before we know it. Bring back spring is all I can say lol.
